Affordability Now: The Policy Fix for America’s Housing Crisis

06. 11. 2026

A virtual panel discussion on ESP's Building Affordability report with authors and experts

On Wednesday, June 10th, 2026, ESP hosted a virtual webinar to introduce our new report, Building Affordability: The Policy Agenda for America’s Housing Crisis — a comprehensive look at what it’ll actually take to make housing affordable.

Housing is the biggest expense most families face, and right now, it’s nearly impossible for millions of Americans to get ahead of it. Our report meets the moment with a five-part policy agenda that seeks to address the dual drivers of the crisis, broken markets and broken incomes, by calling for reforming land use, expanding public options for housing, embracing industrial policy, enhancing cash and cash-like support, and strengthening tenant protections.

Report authors ESP’s Vice President of Policy & Research Mike Konczal Director of Policy & Research Becky Chao, and Ned Resnikoff, formerly of California YIMBY, were joined in conversation by experts Paul Williams of the Center for Public Enterprise and Shafeka Hashash, who leads cash initiatives at ESP.

ESP’s Vice President of Communications and External Affairs Chrissy Blitz made introductory remarks and Senior Director of Narrative Strategy Cara Rose DeFabio moderated the panel.
