Cash as Care 2021: How Guaranteed Income Supports Black Moms

This panel will explore the ways in which a guaranteed income can lead to improvements in health, relationships, for Black women and everyone else.
This panel will explore the ways in which a guaranteed income provided to Black women, specifically Black mothers, can lead to improvements in health, family and extended community relationships, and general quality of life—for Black women and for everyone else.
Featuring:
- Dr. Aisha Nyandoro will provide her expertise in leading the Magnolia Mother’s Trust, the longest-running cash transfer program in the U.S. since the 1960s and 70s, providing $1,000 a month in unrestricted cash to Black moms in subsidized housing in Jackson, Mississippi.
- Dr. Zea Malawa will share the research, thinking, and plans for the Abundant Birth Project, which begins cash payments to Black and Pacific Islander pregnant women and new mothers beginning this summer in San Francisco, California.
- Anne Price will offer expertise into the economic disparities perpetuated by racism and the ways in which we reach progress for all by starting with helping those who need it most.
