Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representatives Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-3), Susan DelBene (D-WA-1), and Ritchie Torres (D-NY-15) will introduce the American Family Act, which would restore the expanded, monthly Child Tax Credit to 2021 levels and provide much-needed support for families. The following is a statement from Adam Ruben, Vice President of Campaigns and Political Strategy at Economic Security Project.

“With families continuing to face the brunt of rising costs and the impending possibility of corporate tax breaks, champions in the U.S. House of Representatives are taking steps to prioritize parents and children in their legislative agenda. In 2021, we saw the power of the expanded, monthly Child Tax Credit in keeping parents afloat and cutting child poverty in half. In a blow to families across the United States, Republicans allowed this critical program to expire, but champions like Representatives Rosa DeLauro, Susan DelBene, and Ritchie Torres have not backed down, continuing to push for a permanent Child Tax Credit.

“We applaud these champions in the House for re-introducing the American Family Act to restore the expanded, monthly Child Tax Credit – especially at a time when the House Majority willfully overlooks families struggling to make ends meet. Restoring the expanded, monthly Child Tax Credit would bring millions of children back into the fold – kids who deserve a roof over their head and food on the table. An investment in our children is an investment in the future of our country. Congress must pass the American Family Act as soon as possible.”
